Welcome to New York, New York. It's a helluva—theater—town.
The rush hour is ending. You've finished dinner. Time to head to the show. Approaching Times Square, you encounter a symphony of taxi horns. Suddenly the clap of a limousine door. A famous face? Neon theater signs hit you with familiar names —The Gershwin, The Brooks Atkinson, The Schubert, The Helen Hayes. The dressed-up crowd presses under the marquee. "Tickets Please!" A soft lobby rug gives under your feet. "A program, miss?" "That's 7 rows down three seats from the aisle." You settle in, look around. The lights go down. The music starts. You're on vacation and it's curtain time all over New York!

Broadway shows are generally large productions mounted in theaters holding 699 seats or more. Some have over a 100 seats. Many of these are shows that have proven
themselves over in London or other cities out of New York, or are revivals of
past hits. |

Off-Broadway theaters hold from 100 - 499 people. Productions costs are cheaper, and the shows tend to be more original and adventurous. Some Broadway hits are first born Off-Broadway - Godspell, Chorus Line, Rent, so the Off-Broadway show you see today may be tomorrow's Broadway hit. Certain Off-Broadway Companies are know for their fine work throughout the years like the Manhattan Theater Club and Playwrights Horizons. Ticket prices range from $25 - $55. |

Off-Off Broadway theaters hold 99 seats or less. These shows are by far the most eclectic and varied in content.
